The Brief
Our Approach
Our clients own a thriving farm bed/breakfast and holiday let business in the picturesque conservation village of Hepworth in ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country near Holmfirth. They wanted to expand the range of facilities available to their visitors and decided to construct a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym.
The building needed to be in-keeping with the established character of the Conservation area and particularly the surrounding agricultural buildings. The materials externally are reclaimed local stone under a stone slated roof with stained timber windows, which can be opened up to surrounding meadow. Internally the pool hall derives it distinctive character from the asymmetric laminated roof trusses with their steel tension rods as lower booms to reduce visual intrusion on the enclosed space.
Like all swimming pools the control of the internal environment was a key design consideration, high levels of insulation and carefully positioned vapour barriers are designed to reduce running costs. The unobtrusive incorporation of air conditioning ducting beneath the pool surround prevents condensation forming on windows around the pool and ensures a pleasant environment to enjoy a swim whatever the external conditions.
The Result
A superb heated indoor swimming pool, with sauna and steam room, which has become a valuable asset to this successful business. We continue to work with Steven and Alison, helping them to extend and alter their various properties, continually improving the accommodation and facilities they have on offer.
